Tamara S. Funari COL, AN

Colonel Funari received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Mount Carmel College of Nursing, Columbus, OH.  She earned her Masters of Science Degree from the University of Texas, Austin in 2006 and maintains board certification as an Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist.  She earned her Masters of Military and Science from the US Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, KS.  In 2014 she completed a one year Executive Leadership Fellowship with Kaiser Permanente HQ, Oakland, CA.  COL Funari earned a Master’s in Strategic Studies from the Army War College.

 

COL Funari has over 32 years of Active and Reserve Military Service.  Her active service includes Chief Nurse and Chief, Clinical Operations of U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM); Director, Delivery of Health Division, Office of the Surgeon General; Director 68C Advanced Individual Training School, Chief, Hospital Education and Training Department, Fort Gordon, GA; Officer in Charge (OIC) surgical trauma unit and Intermediate Care Clinical Nurse Specialist, Fort Sam Houston TX; Section Chief of Intensive Care, Intermediate Care and Detainee Units of the 86th CSH, Bagdad, Iraq.  Other OIC positions are: Intermediate Care, 212th Combat Support Hospital, & Orthopedics Landstuhle Regional Medical Center, Germany; CNOIC Emergency Medical Treatment at Taazar Hungary. Asst. CNOIC of Institute of Surgical Research Burn Ward; She also served as interim Deputy Commander for Nursing, 212th CSH, GE and Healthcare Recruiter, 3rd AMEDD Recruiting Brigade, Cleveland, OH.  She is currently serving as the Deputy Commander for Nursing USA MEDDAC, Fort Stewart GA.

COL has 7 peer-reviewed publications, and over 50 presentations.  She was recognized as the Senior Nursing Leader of the year in 2019 from the Army Nurse Corps Association.  Her key military awards and decorations include Defense Meritorious Service Medal, 5 Military Service Medals, 6 Army Commendation Medals, an Army Achievement Medal, and various unit and service medals and ribbons.  COL Funari is a member of the Army Medical Department’s prestigious Order of Military Medical Merit.
