Dr. Smart is a dually board-certified family nurse practitioner and advanced public health nurse through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She has clinical expertise in the areas of maternal-newborn health, women’s health, school-based health, college health, pediatrics/adolescent medicine, family medicine, pain management, psychiatry, addiction medicine, nurse-managed care, and Telehealth/telemedicine. Dr. Smart received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Southern University and A & M College in 2002, a Master of Nursing degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans in 2007, a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from The University of Alabama in 2014, and a Post-Master’s Certificate in Nursing Education from Excelsior College. In addition to her role as a clinician, Dr. Smart is an experienced nurse educator, healthcare consultant, health policy advocate, and entrepreneur.
As an academician, she has co-authored several nursing textbook chapters, published articles in peer-reviewed nursing journals, and is a certified peer reviewer for The Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Smart is currently a board of directors member for the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners in which she serves as a Health Policy Committee Member/Political Action Committee Co-Chair, a Medical Advisory Board Member for Nice Healthcare in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and maintains professional membership in the following organizations: American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association, American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, National League for Nursing, and Louisiana State Nurses Association. Dr. Smart currently works as a full-time assistant professor in the graduate nursing programs at Loyola University New Orleans, part-time as the owner/principal healthcare consultant/social media content strategist at HealthConsultology E-Resolutions, and part-time as the owner/creator/blogger at Ask Me? Dr. Smart, DNP. She holds a multi-state RN license and licensed as an APRN in Louisiana, Alabama, Colorado, and Michigan.
